Common challenges

What makes a finance resume hard to get noticed?

  • "Financial modelling" is on every resume

The models you built, such as three-statement, DCF, budget or forecast models, say much more than the phrase alone.

  • Numbers matter, and must be real

Budgets, variances and transactions show your level, but only figures you can stand behind, and some deal details are confidential.

  • Credential levels are easy to blur

Passing CFA Level I and being a CFA charterholder are very different. Postings may ask for either, or for an accounting qualification.

  • Different corners of finance

FP&A, corporate finance, banking and investment research use different vocabulary for related skills.

Resume or CV: what changes by country?

The document is the same: a UK or Australian CV is what US and Canadian postings call a resume. What changes is the wording postings use. The CFA program uses the same names in all four countries. "Modelling" is the usual spelling in the UK, Canada and Australia and "modeling" in the US; use the posting's spelling. UK postings often call FP&A roles "finance business partner" roles.

CountryWhat the document is called
United StatesUsually "resume". A "CV" usually means a longer academic or research document.
CanadaUsually "resume"; "CV" is also used.
United KingdomUsually "CV", meaning the same kind of document as a US resume.
Australia"Resume" and "CV" are both used for the same document.
FAQ

Questions finance professionals ask

All questions about JobPilot

Can I include confidential deal details?

Leave them out. Describe the type of transaction, your role and the work you did. JobPilot does not need confidential details to tailor your resume.

Will JobPilot describe me as a CFA charterholder?

Only if your resume already says so. It never adds or upgrades a credential; if a posting asks for one you do not hold, it is shown as a gap.

Will it invent savings or deal sizes?

No. JobPilot never invents numbers. When a bullet could use one, it leaves a [placeholder] for you to fill in with a real figure, or remove.

Does it work for banking and investment roles?

Yes. JobPilot works with any posting that has a written description, including banking, investment and corporate finance jobs.
