How JobPilot helps software engineers get interviews
JobPilot compares your software engineering resume with each posting, shows which languages, frameworks, cloud tools and practices the job asks for that your resume doesn't mention, and tailors your resume using only what you have actually built. It never adds a technology you haven't used.

What makes a software engineering resume hard to get past screening?
-
The stack decides the first screen
Postings list specific languages, frameworks, databases and cloud platforms. "Full-stack developer" on its own does not show which ones you know.
-
The same tool has many names
"JS" and "JavaScript", "k8s" and "Kubernetes", "AWS" and the services you used. Software may look for the exact term in the posting.
-
Tasks instead of impact
"Worked on the payments API" says what you touched, not what changed. Real numbers help, but only ones you actually measured.
-
Projects lose their detail
Side projects and open-source work matter, especially early in a career, yet they are often listed without the stack or your part in them.
How does JobPilot help software engineers?
-
Job Match
Splits the posting into the languages, frameworks and practices your resume already shows and the ones it does not mention.
-
Resume Tailoring
Rewords your bullets and reorders your skills around the stack the posting names, using only technologies that are on your resume.
-
ATS Resume Checker
Flags task-style bullets and bullets that would be stronger with a number. AI leaves a [placeholder] instead of guessing one.
-
Interview Prep
Behavioral, role-specific and, where relevant, technical practice questions for the job, with feedback on your answers.
-
Application Tracker
Keeps track of the companies you applied to and your interview stages, with reminders.
The resume score, 3 match checks, one interview practice session and the application tracker are free. Tailored resumes, cover letters and application answers are part of Pro.
See pricingWhat should a software engineering resume show?
General guidance. List only technologies you have used and can talk about.
| Section | What to include |
|---|---|
| Technical skills | Languages, frameworks, databases, cloud platforms and tools you have used, written the way the posting writes them. |
| Experience | What you built or changed, the stack you used, and your part when it was a team effort. |
| Impact | Latency, uptime, cost, users or release speed, only if you measured or know the number. JobPilot never guesses it. |
| Projects and open source | What the project does, its stack, your role, and a link to the repository or demo if it is public. |
| Education and certifications | Your degree, bootcamp or self-taught path, and any cloud or vendor certifications you hold. |
Resume or CV: what changes by country?
The document is the same: a UK or Australian CV is what US and Canadian postings call a resume. What changes is the wording postings use. Technology and vendor certification names are the same in all four countries. Early-career postings in the UK and Australia often say "graduate" roles where US and Canadian postings say "new grad" or "entry-level".
| Country | What the document is called |
|---|---|
| United States | Usually "resume". A "CV" usually means a longer academic or research document. |
| Canada | Usually "resume"; "CV" is also used. |
| United Kingdom | Usually "CV", meaning the same kind of document as a US resume. |
| Australia | "Resume" and "CV" are both used for the same document. |
Will JobPilot add a framework I have not used?
No. If a posting asks for a technology your resume does not show, it is listed as a gap. It is added only if you tap "I have this" and confirm it.
Should I include a GitHub link?
If public repositories show relevant work, a link helps a reviewer. The match score is based on the text of your resume, so describe the project and its stack on the resume as well.
I do not have metrics for my work. Is that a problem?
No. Clear bullets about what you built and why still work. JobPilot never invents numbers: when a bullet could use one, it leaves a [placeholder] for you to fill in or remove.
Does it work for IT support, DevOps and QA roles?
Yes. JobPilot works with any posting that has a written description, including IT support, DevOps, site reliability and QA jobs.
