Common challenges

What makes a product management resume hard to write?

  • Outputs instead of outcomes

Lists of features shipped are common. What changed for users or the business shows more, when you know it.

  • Shared credit

Product results come from teams. Your bullets need to show your part: what you decided, discovered or led.

  • Domain and product type

B2B or consumer, platform or growth, mobile or web: postings often ask for experience with one kind of product.

  • Titles mean different things

Product manager, product owner, senior or group product manager: scope varies by company, so compare duties, not titles.

Resume or CV: what changes by country?

The document is the same: a UK or Australian CV is what US and Canadian postings call a resume. What changes is the wording postings use. Product titles are used in similar ways in all four countries; compare the duties in a posting rather than the title. UK and Australian postings may spell it "prioritisation"; use the posting's spelling.

CountryWhat the document is called
United StatesUsually "resume". A "CV" usually means a longer academic or research document.
CanadaUsually "resume"; "CV" is also used.
United KingdomUsually "CV", meaning the same kind of document as a US resume.
Australia"Resume" and "CV" are both used for the same document.
